Faculty Statement

Statement of Academic Freedom
Florida College of Integrative Medicine’s (FCIM) academic freedom statement is included in the Faculty Handbook under the section "Academic Freedom and Ethics" as follows:

Faculty members have full freedom of inquiry and expression, subject to adequate fulfillment of academic duties. No limitation is placed upon freedom of exposition of subject matter inside or outside the classroom. The faculty member has an obligation to be accurate, to exercise appropriate restraint, and to respect the right of others to express their views.

The faculty member should not subject students in the classroom to discussion of topics that are irrelevant to the content of the course.

In public utterances as a private citizen, the faculty member must avoid appearing as a spokesperson for the College unless specifically designated as such.

Verification of Education and Experience
Oriental medicine instruction applicants must be Florida licensed acupuncturists and have at least the Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine degree if trained in China or a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine if trained in the U.S.. Western biomedical science instruction applicants are required to have doctoral level credentials.

Along with curriculum vitae, applicants must submit relevant documentation (copies of diplomas and transcripts) to support their educational credentials and achievements. As appropriate and possible, references are contacted to verify experience.

Applicants must be fluent in English. Teaching experience is also highly desirable. Applicants whose communication and/or teaching abilities are in question are required to present a sample lesson to the Academic Dean, other faculty members and staff members.
